Outfitted with a motorized five-disc CD carousel tray, the device is designed to play several hours of music in a single session, so the listener doesn't have to change discs every 50 minutes or so. The carousel is complemented by a play exchange function, which lets users load four CDs while the fifth is still playing to ensure an uninterrupted soundtrack. Among the RP8070's other playback functions are 32-track programming (for listeners who like to make custom soundtracks); intro scan, which plays the first 10 seconds of each track so the listener can quickly identify the song; and standard random and repeat play functions.
Listeners have the option of operating the unit via the comprehensive front-panel pushbutton controls or the 20-key remote control. Another bonus stems from the multifunction fluorescent screen, which displays track, artist, and time information in a bright, easy-to-read format.
